During the late 1960′s to early 1970′s, surfboard shapes were changing rapidly. The Longboards Era was history and boards were getting shorter every year. A lot of attention was being paid as to what was working on the North Shore of Hawaii and how some of those designs would work in California. Thus, “The Pocket Rocket” was born. It is narrow and straight with up-rails in the nose and no tail rocker. It worked best in the hollow Santa Barbara Waves. To cut down on weight, the extra resin gloss coat was eliminated which created a textured deck aiding in the application of wax. In addition, contrasting tinted resin lay-ups were becoming a more popular practice among glassers.
These boards were shaped and glassed exclusively as the Yater shop on Gray Ave. in Santa Barbara, CA. Renny is producing a very limited edition of the original “Pocket Rockets” For those that surfed and remember the time when this design was popular.
This Limited Edition series consists of 24 Boards. Each shaped, signed and numbered by reynolds yater.
